Firm Summary

I grew up in Southwest Virginia. I decided to become an attorney to help serve this area and its people. My passion has always been family law. I enjoy helping clients through difficult times and guiding them through their trials with individualized attention. It was because of this passion I attended Campbell’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in Raleigh, North Carolina where I majored in trial advocacy. During my time in law school, I focused on family law and estate planning.

In 2012, I graduated at the top of my class with honors and passed the North Carolina Bar. In early 2013, I passed the Virginia Bar. At this time, my active license is in Virginia only. Since that time, I have been in private practice as well as worked in other legal capacities.

General Practice and Magistrate

In the first few years of my practice, I worked in a general practice firm where I grew as an attorney who litigated matters from real property, family law, to personal injury.

I worked as a magistrate in Northern Virginia where I issued warrants for arrest, search warrants, emergency protective orders and emergency custody orders for mental health.

Wide Array of Knowledge

For the last six years, I have focused primarily on child support, family law, estate planning and small traffic infraction defense. I have practiced in many different localities to include Smyth, Abingdon, Bristol, Russell, Wythe, Tazewell, and Wise to Prince William County, Fairfax and Loudoun County.

I have accumulated a wide array of knowledge over the past nine years. Specifically in family law, I have negotiated property settlement agreements, which include custody, child support, spousal support, and equitable distribution of the marital estate. I have also litigated these matters as well. I have helped clients who have large and small portfolios and believe that each client no matter the size of their marital estate should have personal attention and an individual plan, which suits their needs.

Estate Planning Experience

As for my experience in estate planning, I have worked with clients who have a small estate and need only a simple will to those who have large estates in excess of one million dollars and significant property and need more extensive planning such as a family trust. I have advised at least 200 families since 2013 on how to best handle their estate and its assets so that it is done in accordance with their wishes.

Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia

In the last two years, I have been an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia and have litigated over 3,000 petitions for child support and rules to show cause. I have dealt with issues such as imputation of income, underemployment, a medical diagnosis that render a person unable to work, and child support for adult children who are disabled.

I have litigated over a thousand rules to show causes for child support and know what each side must prove or defend in order to be successful.

It is with this experience that I have decided to open up my practice in Abingdon, Virginia. My love for this area and its people has driven me to want to help those through a very difficult process. My experience has been that most people do not see a lawyer when things are going well. Instead, people consult attorneys when life is difficult.

I aim to meet with clients in a way that leaves them feeling as though they have been heard and understand what various options lie before them. I am honest and forthright and will always strive to be so with my clients. I choose to try and settle most matters amicably; however, there is a time and place for resilient and robust litigation which I am comfortable doing as well. If you choose my firm, it would be an honor to serve you and to help you through this potentially challenging time in your life.
