Tony Powell is P&E’s senior litigation partner with more than 30 years of trial practice experience in the Federal and State Courts of Georgia. His focus is on matters before the State and Superior Courts of Gwinnett County and the surrounding Metro Atlanta counties of Fulton, DeKalb, Hall, Jackson, Barrow, and Clarke.
Mr. Powell is also approved to practice in the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. Mr. Powell is approved and qualified as an Attorney and Counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Powell has also practiced as a local government attorney for almost his entire career, serving as the City Attorney for the City of Lawrenceville, Georgia from 1984 until he was elected to the City Council in 2010, and serving as the City Attorney for the City of Snellville, Georgia from 2010 until 2015.

In a five-day jury trial involving complex business tort issues, Mr. Powell received for his client a verdict of $830,000.00 which included $400,000.00 in punitive damages. Henderson v. Glen Oak, Inc., 179 Ga. App. 380, 346 S.E.2d 842, 1986 Ga. App. LEXIS 1916 (1986).

In another business tort trial, Mr. Powell represented a new automobile dealership against a manufacturer. When the manufacturer refused to allow the transfer of the dealership to a purchaser, a suit was filed. After a complex set of trials and appeals, the matter was tried in the State Court of Gwinnett County before a jury. In a jury trial involving the division of a medical practice business, Mr. Powell represented a doctor in securing a verdict exceeding $250,000.00.
