Stephen O’Donnell grew up in Augusta and attended public and parochial schools there and graduated from Cony High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and a Doctor of Laws (JD) degree from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mr. O’Donnell is licensed to practice law in both Maine in Massachusetts. He has been in private practice since 1976 and started Goodspeed & O’Donnell with Ernest L. Goodspeed, Jr. in 1980. He has extensive legal experience in both State and Federal Courts.

At the present time, Mr. O’Donnell concentrates his practice on disability law, estate planning, wills, probate, trusts and estates, real estate and business planning. He handles Social Security, Maine Personal Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) and Federal Civil Service disability claims. In addition to drafting trusts, he serves as a trustee.
Mr. O’Donnell is a member of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association, Maine Bar Association, Kennebec Bar Association (Past President) and the National Organization of Social Security Claims Representatives (Sustaining Member). In 2013, Mr. O’Donnell was awarded a Certificate of Commendation under the Katahdin Counsel Recognition Program for his pro bono work. He has served on multiple committees for the Town of Monmouth, including the Comprehensive Planning Committee, Smart Growth Committee and Planning Board for which he currently serves as chairperson. He has served on the Board of Governors of the Augusta Country Club and is a Past President. He is the Treasurer of the Augusta Golf Company.
