A graduate of Syracuse University College of Law, Robert is licensed to practice in Colorado, Massachusetts, and New York. He started his legal career working for firms in New York City and Massachusetts before coming to Telluride as General Counsel for Doral Hotels (now the Peaks). He opened his private practice in 1994.

Robert is married to Judi Balkind, owner of Jarmik Property Management in Telluride. They have two children, Jared, a Syracuse University graduate, and Mikaela who graduated from the University of Washington.

Active in the community of Telluride, Robert has served on the boards of the Telluride Ski Club, the Telluride Soccer Club, the Telluride Dance Academy, and the Uncompahgre Medical Center in Norwood.
