Richard Labarthe is a native Oklahoman and third generation attorney in his family, following his grandfather and three uncles and joining his brother in private practice in Stillwater, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Norman, Oklahoma. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1985, graduating magna cum laude, where he was also a member of the Order of the Coif and the University of Oklahoma Law Review and he is admitted to all state and federal courts in Oklahoma as well as the Tenth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals.

He began his private practice with the Oklahoma City firm Mock, Schwabe, Waldo, Elder, Reeves & Bryant as an associate from 1985 to 1990 and continuing as a partner from 1990 to 1996, focusing on complex business transactions, commercial law and bankruptcy, debtor-creditor law, foreclosures and workouts, corporate practice and commercial real estate. In 1996, Mr. Labarthe joined David Schneider in establishing Schneider & Labarthe, also in Oklahoma City, and expanded his practice to include transportation law and immigration practice as well as estate planning and probate practice. In 2008, Mr. Labarthe established his own solo practice in Oklahoma City, continuing his focus in commercial real estate, business transactions, immigration, bankruptcy law, trusts and estates and general litigation.

Richard has served on the boards of the Police Athletic League and the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City and on the parish council of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. Richard has also been actively involved in the Knights of Columbus and has served as an adult leader in Troop 21 and Troop 120 in the Baden Powell District of the Last Frontier Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He has also coached many youth sports teams, principally basketball, for boys ages 8 through 16.

He makes his home in Oklahoma City with his wife, Pat Ball and their 17 year-old Jack Russell, Cooper.
