With 42 years of experience, Michael Day has extensively advised a wide range of clients in business and personal matters involving both contentious and non-contentious matters.

Michael has appeared before all levels of courts in Ontario including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Commercial List in Toronto, and the Ontario Court of Appeal. In particular, Michael has argued over 1,000 contested trials, motions, applications, and appeals. He has advocated for clients before various administrative tribunals in Ontario, and has represented clients through alternative dispute resolution processes (including mediation and arbitration). As an agent, Mr. Day has represented the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Community and Social Services in various litigation matters. Michael has addressed the Senate House Committee in Ottawa on important matters of legislation.

Michael’s preferred areas of practice are currently Corporate/Commercial Law, Estate Planning, Real Estate Law, and complex Family Law matters.

When providing advice to clients, Mr. Day uses his vast courtroom experience as a valuable asset. Michael’s knowledge of law and the court process assists with the preparation of complex commercial and business agreements as well with providing effective advice regarding general corporate/commercial and estate planning matters.

Mr. Day has developed a broad understanding of the business needs and challenges facing both new and established businesses. Using his broad professional and business experience with his clients over the years, he is able to provide practical and common sense advice to his clients.

Michael has taught law at Sheridan College’s adult education program and has mentored and provided articles to a number of junior lawyers over the years.

He attended University of Toronto for two years and then enrolled at the Faculty of Law at the University of Windsor and graduated with his degree in law in 1978. Mr. Day regularly attends numerous Continuing Legal Education programs sponsored by The Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association, and Osgoode Law School. At the University of Toronto (Erindale College) in Mississauga, Michael founded a legal clinic for students.

Michael is married, has four children, and eight grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, boating and reading.

He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Peel Law Association. He has been a member of the Area Committee for The Ontario Legal Aid Plan which is a statutory appeal tribunal for matters of legal aid. Michael also has had experience on the Ethics Committee of a local hospital in Mississauga and is a director on a number of private Corporations. In his studies, he was awarded the McCarthy & McCarthy Award and the University of Windsor Award for academics in law school.
