Laughlin went to law school at the University of Toronto after obtaining his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Waterloo. Called to the bar in 1998 after articling with the Ministry of the Attorney General, Laughlin moved immediately into an active litigation practice, focusing on commercial litigation and administrative law.
Laughlin is currently the principal litigation and trial lawyer at Campbells LLP and is lead counsel for major trials and contentious estate matters. Laughlin has appeared before numerous courts and tribunals, including all levels of court and appellate courts in Ontario, as well as various administrative tribunals including the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, and Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and has represented clients before various professional disciplinary bodies, including chartered accountants, teachers and professional engineers.
Laughlin’s corporate practice focuses on strategic planning and advice, putting clients in position to grow and connecting them with needed resources through the firm’s extensive network of contacts. In this role, he is often sought out as an advisor to corporate clients given his ability to assess his clients’ needs, priorities and business objectives and to provide them with sound advice in helping them achieve short and long-term success.
