Joe is a Member at the firm. He has extensive litigation and transactional experience in commercial disputes, probate, estate planning, corporate and real estate matters. He has extensive experience providing insurance coverage analysis for carriers. He is national trial counsel in the defense of product liability claims in the gas fired heating industry. He advises clients on complex disputes in multiple industries in state and federal courts across the country. Joe also has advanced training and certifications in Family Law, Probate and Estate Planning.

Joe’s practice includes complex litigated matters such as business torts, construction litigation, real property disputes, tax appeals, ground water contamination claims and business to business disputes. His environmental experience also includes defense of mold related injury claims, lead contamination litigation and municipal sewage defect claims. His product liability experience includes defense of carbon monoxide catastrophic injury and death claims.

McGill serves as an elected member of the Board of Commissioners of the State Bar of Michigan. He has been elected by his fellow board members to serve as Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President of the State Bar of Michigan. As Treasurer, he chaired the Finance Committee and Audit Committee which oversees the financial operations and long-term planning of the State Bar of Michigan. As Secretary he presently chairs the Professional Standards Committee which oversees the Bar’s efforts in the following areas: Character & Fitness, Client Protection Fund, Judicial Ethics, Judicial Qualifications, Lawyers & Judges Assistance, Professional Ethics and the Unauthorized Practice of Law.

During his term as Vice President, he will chair the Communications & Member Services Committee which is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations regarding all current and proposed new programs, services, bar activities and make recommendations regarding the Bar’s relationship with local and special interest bar associations and the sections of the Bar. The Committee also oversees: Awards; Michigan Bar Journal; Public Outreach & Education. He also serves on the SBM Executive Committee and Strategic Planning Committee both of which work with SBM staff to provide leadership and vision for the future.

He has served as the Chair of the Representative Assembly for the State Bar of Michigan and was a member of the State Bar’s 21st Century Practice Task Force. He serves as Emeritus Director and past President of the Catholic Lawyers Society of Detroit, past President of the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers and Past President and founder of the Michigan Irish American Chamber of Commerce, n/k/a Irish Network Detroit. Joe carries Martindale Hubbell’s “AV” rating, is a Michigan Super Lawyer and is rated “Superb” by Avvo. He was the 2013 recipient of the Michigan Irish American Chamber of Commerce’s Business Lawyer Award.
