Firm Summary

My Goal: I want to be your “neighborhood lawyer”; the one you go to first for all of your legal needs. I want your business, your family’s business, and based upon your recommendations, the business of your friends and associates. This can only be accomplished by providing you with professional legal services at fair prices, coupled with courteous, prompt responses to you telephone calls, questions and needs.

Since I first started the practice in 1979, it has developed into a “family / neighborhood” type law practice, being built on word of mouth referrals. My satisfied clients typically refer their friends and family to us to handle all of their legal needs.

There is never a charge for an initial consultation, and my hours are flexible to accommodate the needs of my clients. Evening and Saturday hours can be arranged by appointment.

I also work closely with a variety of other attorneys, CPAs, mortgage and business brokers, real estate agents, etc. This enables my clients to get answers for all of their questions, whether legal, accounting, tax, mortgage or other issues.

My Philosophy: The one thing that I’ve strived over the years NOT to be is your typical, condescending, stuffy, unapproachable attorney. Our hours are flexible to accommodate YOUR needs (not my golf game). Fees are based solely upon the work that needs to be done, and not the size of your wallet. When your matter is completed, I want you to leave with the feeling that you had a friend working for you – not an adversary.

Personal Information:
In selecting a lawyer, it is obviously important to review the lawyer’s qualifications and expertise in the field for which you’re retaining the attorney. However, what is often overlooked is the ability of the attorney and client to interact together. It is as important for a client to respect his attorney as a person, as it is to respect him as a lawyer. For that reason, I am providing a brief personal bio of myself.

Born: 1953, Queens, N.Y.
Ethnic background: Italian
Married since 1980, two children; two dogs; two cats.
Personal Interests: Racquetball, golf, dog breeding, computers.

In 1988, after unsuccessfully searching for a software package for my law office, I launched a legal software development company called “L.I. LAW, Inc.”. Becoming impatient dealing with the programmer I hired, I taught myself how to program, and in conjunction with my full time general practice, I (along with my secretary) did all the programming, marketing, sales, training and support of the “L.I. LAW Office Management System”. Amazingly, more than 10 years later, I still have a number of attorneys relying on my software to manage their law offices.

From 1992 to 1994, as a way of promoting L.I. LAW, I founded “L.I. LAW Expos, Ltd.” which produced trade shows for attorneys. These trade shows included vendors for various types of legal products, as well as seminars on specific areas of law. However, with all the Bar Associations getting into the act of running their own trade shows, we ended promotions in 1994.

In November, 1995 I found “the web”. My first web page, “A Perfect Dog: The Coton de Tulear”, (www.cotonpage.com) was posted in response to my having acquired a terrific “Coton de Tulear” puppy. After getting my feet wet with the Coton page, I set up “Find-A-Lawyer On The Net”, “A Catalog of Rare Opera”, “A Directory of Long Island Real Estate”, “Computer Miracles” and “Wellness-USA”.

In August, 2007, at my heaviest weight of 298 lbs, I started the Michael Thurman Weight Loss Plan. By September 2008 I had lost 115 lbs. Now I take 5-6 spin classes each week, play at least 2 hours per week of racquetball, and have maintained my weight at 183lbs. In January 2010 I was invited to the “Dr. Oz” show, as one of the “Dr. Oz 100” … 100 guests who lost 100+ pounds, for his 100th show.
