Native South Carolinian, Edwin Whitner “Whit” Slagsvol founded Slagsvol Law Firm, LLC, in 2017 as Charleston’s premier boutique commercial and civil litigation practice offering a suite of services designed for startup businesses. The firm’s legal incubation platform is designed to nurture the new generation of entrepreneurial talent. Whit has been recognized by his peers and by the Super Lawyers publication as a Rising Star in Business Law, specifically as a “Top Rated Business & Corporate Attorney in Charleston, SC.”

The foundation of Whit’s practice is to foster the entrepreneurial experience by giving corporate and individual clients the attention of a major company’s in-house counsel through customized coverage tailored to the client’s legal needs. Focusing primarily on the representation of startups, nonprofits, entertainment, and emerging small businesses, the ethos of the firm is to serve as a strategic partner by helping navigate and anticipate the client’s unique legal circumstances during the critical stages of pivotal growth.

Whit earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the Charleston School of Law where he was the recipient of the highest grade CALI Award in Products Liability, and he was selected to be a distinguished select student member of the James L. Petigru Inn of Court. He earned a Bachelor of the Arts degree in English from the College of Charleston following graduation from Episcopal High School, a boarding school in Alexandria, Virginia.

As a lifelong Lowcountry local, Whit’s range of community involvement includes: the Junior Achievement Program, where he teaches financial literacy to young children; the Be A Mentor program working with local youth; and his commitment to local activism includes hosting campaign events for many candidates, including Joe Cunningham, previous representative for SC’s 1st Congressional District.

Outside of the office, Whit is an accomplished outdoorsman, conservationist, an avid traveler, proud dog owner, political activist, and a movie nerd according to his two sisters.
