Brently (Brent) W. Free was born in Amarillo, Texas, in 1965 and moved to New Braunfels, Texas in 1976. After graduating from New Braunfels High School in 1984, he attended and graduated from Texas A & M University in 1988 with a BBA in Accounting. Brent attended St. Mary’s School of Law, graduating in 1991 Cum Laude with a Juris Doctorate degree.

Brent was licensed to practice law in 1991 and began his legal career as an Attorney with the District Counsel’s Office of the Internal Revenue Service, handling Tax Court litigation, Bankruptcy Cases and IRS Collection matters. Appointed as a Special Assistant to the United States Attorney’s office in 1993, Brent also handled IRS matters in Bankruptcy Court. Brent left Government service in November of 1995 to enter private practice in New Braunfels. In 2013, Brent formed Brently W. Free, LLC to continue providing legal services to both individuals and businesses in Comal and surrounding counties.

Brent is Board Certified-Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and frequently works with corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and small businesses in addressing formation issues, operational issues and federal tax issues faced by these entities. Estate planning, trust formation, probate and probate litigation, and business litigation are also a routine part of Brent’s practice. He counsels and assists clients in resolving issues with the Internal Revenue Service, whether through an offer in compromise, installment agreement or litigation in the United States Tax Court.

A significant portion of Brent’s practice is focused on estate planning for both large and small estates. He considers each client’s individual needs and works to insure that the client not only understands what assets they have, but how they will be passed on to the next generation.
