Bethany comes to the legal profession with a strong background in education.  Bethany worked for the better half of a decade as a teacher in both Baltimore City, Maryland, and Miami-Dade County, Florida. Capitalizing on her experience and background in education, Bethany went to law school to use her professional and educational experience to assist families in all aspects of their lives.

Bethany concentrates her litigation practice in complex litigation and settlement of family law matters: divorce, custody, spousal and child support, property division, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, guardianships, modifications, contempt and enforcement issues and domestic violence.  Bethany has extensive experience in complex custody and property matters and is often hired and/or consulted by her peers on multimillion dollar property cases and high asset divorces.

If not in a courtroom, Bethany has experience handling arbitrations, mediations (both as counsel and as a mediator) and serves as a parent coordinator. She is also trained and engages in collaborative law practice.  Bethany is also frequently appointed by the Court to serve as a mediator, trustee over property, attorney for an alleged disabled person, or to serve as counsel for a minor child in a custody or guardianship case.

Bethany uses her vast knowledge of property and asset issues and engages in the drafting and preparation of wills, trusts, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, settlement agreements, and the like.  She serves as a fiduciary of estates as well as serves as a trustee (when requested).  Her trust and estate practice is unique in that she brings her litigation experience to know and appreciate what requirements should be in these documents to stand any legal challenge that may be presented.

Bethany G. Shechtel is a native Washingtonian and grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland.  Bethany is a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School, Towson University, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, and the University of the District of Columbia Law School.  She serves as the founding and managing partner of BGS Law, LLC and she resides in Montgomery County where she raised her daughter, who is now a proud Maryland college student.
