Firm Summary

Amanda Bettencourt is a partner at Tupman & Bloom LLP. Since her call to the bar in 2016, Amanda has dedicated her practice to the areas of wills, estates, trust and capacity litigation.

Amanda provides passionate representation for beneficiaries, trustees and executors, attorneys acting under powers of attorney, as well as clients faced with financial vulnerability and capacity concerns. She works closely with her clients to reduce the stress of estates and trusts litigation.  She recognizes her clients’ unique circumstances and is committed to ensuring that their interests are well represented. She has represented clients before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, as well as at mediation.

Amanda also has a particular understanding of the complex legal issues that intersect the areas of estates, capacity, and family law, having worked at the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee. She successfully represented clients in court proceedings and before various administrative tribunals.

Amanda obtained her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School. She built a dedication for advocacy throughout her studies, particularly with respect to vulnerable members of the community. In her second year of law school, Amanda was awarded a health law internship, which enabled her to work as a Summer Student at the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly. In this role, Amanda represented Ontario’s seniors in cases of elder abuse and prepared policy opinions and public legal education materials. She also worked at Parkdale Community Legal Services in the Workers’ Rights Division, where she assisted workers faced with precarious work conditions in overcoming their employment barriers.

Amanda understands that helping her clients involves not only dealing with their legal issues, but also addressing the personal stressors that may act as roadblocks to arriving at solutions.
