Attorney Buchanan is an active volunteer in the community. He has been a member of the Milford Rotary Club for over 30 years and has also served as its president. He was a director of Opportunity Networks, Inc., an organization providing services to developmentally challenged adults. In addition, he served on the Amherst Zoning Board of Adjustment for 15 years, several of which he was chairman. He was a founding trustee of the Amherst Community Foundation (ACF), treasurer of the Amherst Historical Society (HAS) and a regional advisor to the New Hampshire Charitable Fund (NHCF).
