Attorney Judith Twigg Walz brings many years’ experience assisting clients on a broad range of legal issues in her decades of private practice. Mrs. Walz joined her daughter, Melanie Walz Scaringi, and her son-in-law, Marc A. Scaringi, at the firm beginning in 2011. Prior to this, Mrs. Walz had retired in 2008 from her own practice, Walz & Walz, where she had worked for decades with her late husband, Shaubut C. “Bud” Walz, III, in Newport, Perry County.

For a time, the Scaringi’s and the Walzes had shared a practice in Newport, known as Walz, Walz, Scaringi Law. Marc and Melanie Scaringi departed from the joint firm in 2005 to launch their current practice, Scaringi Law

A pioneering woman in Central Pennsylvania legal circles, Mrs. Walz obtained her license to practice law in 1969. But when local law firms refused to hire her and an offer from a large Philadelphia-Pittsburgh firm came with the unofficial title of “token woman,” Mrs. Walz said she decided to open her own practice, serving clients in Cumberland and Dauphin counties.

Her husband, Shaubut C. “Bud” Walz, III, whom she met at their alma mater, Dickinson College, would join her two years later upon his law school graduation. Together, they formed Walz & Walz in 1972. The couple settled on a farm in Perry County, and their practice became rooted in Newport, where it thrived for the next 36 years, until their joint retirement in 2008.

In that time, Mrs. Walz gained valuable experience in a broad range of practice areas, including divorce and family law, custody cases — including being an early advocate for grandparents’ rights, estates, estate planning, business law, and real estate law, among other areas.

Yet Mrs. Walz never set out to become an attorney. Initially, she had majored in music, both voice, and piano, in her undergraduate studies. But the untimely death of her father prompted her to transfer to Dickinson College in order to be closer to home. A college job clerking in the legal offices of the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue convinced Mrs. Walz that she wanted a career in law.

In 1966, she graduated from Dickinson College with a major in English, and she immediately enrolled in Dickinson School of Law, graduating in 1969.

Mrs. Walz is the mother of two daughters, and she enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren. In addition to her love of the law, Mrs. Walz adores her Perry County farm, where she raises horses and was active in 4-H while raising her children. She and her husband were world travelers, and Mrs. Walz continues to quench a thirst for international travel and experience to this day.
