Firm Summary

I am a sole practitioner with a general law practice, and my offices are located in Carver, Massachusetts. With over three decades of experience, I offer a wide range of legal services to my clients. My areas of expertise encompass various fields, including administrative law, bankruptcy (Chapter 7 and 13), business and personal bankruptcy, civil trials, corporate law, criminal defense in District Courts, domestic relations, mediation, elder law, estate planning, family law, landlord-tenant disputes, mobile homes, municipal law, real estate, and real estate development.

Since January 1990, my practice has been based in Carver, and I dedicate one day each month to pro bono work at the Carver Counsel on Aging, assisting elderly individuals with their legal needs.

Prior to establishing my practice in Carver, I served as a sole practitioner in Middleborough, Massachusetts, where I specialized in most of the areas mentioned above. During that time, I also served as a member of the Middleborough Planning Board from 1986 to 1989, contributing to the local community in a different capacity.

Before embarking on my solo practice, I was a principal in Hale & Hale, P.C., alongside my brother, Douglas A. Hale, Esquire. In this role, I primarily handled matters related to business, estate planning, and real estate, while my brother focused on litigation.

My legal career began as an associate at the Boston firm of Kisloff, Hoch, Shuman & Flanagan. I had the opportunity to work with them during my law school internships and continued as an associate after graduating from law school. I was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in December 1974.

My educational background includes attending Middleborough public schools, where I actively participated in sports and the music program. I was honored to be a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors.

For my undergraduate studies, I enrolled at Boston University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the School of Business Administration (now School of Management) in 1968, graduating cum laude. Following this, I pursued my legal education at Northeastern University School of Law, where I obtained a Juris Doctor degree in 1974.

During my time at law school, in November 1968, I was accepted into the U.S. Coast Guard Officer Candidate School. Although I briefly interrupted my legal studies to fulfill my military obligations, I resumed my legal education and successfully completed my law degree.

In June 1969, I attended and graduated from the Officer Candidate School of the United States Coast Guard, where I was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. I served on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter VIGILANT until September 1971, fulfilling various roles such as First Lieutenant, Gunnery Officer, Exchange Officer, and Deck Watch Officer. Even after transitioning to the reserves, I continued my service and eventually became the Commanding Officer of the New Bedford Vessel Unit. In 1978, due to the demands of my legal practice, I chose to become a member of the inactive Reserves. I was honorably discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1989.

Middleborough, Massachusetts, is not only my place of work but also my hometown. My father, who was also an attorney, practiced law as a sole practitioner in Middleborough until his appointment as a Justice of the Superior Court in 1967 and later as the first Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court in 1972. Following in their footsteps, both my sister and brother also pursued careers in law.

Supporting me in my legal practice is my wife, Betsy Hale, who obtained her certificate in Paralegal Studies from Northeastern
