I am a Texas native, born and raised in Houston, Texas. I graduated with high honors as a Plan II major from The University of Texas at Austin in 1985 and then with honors from The University of Texas School of Law in 1988.

After graduation, I worked at a large law firm, Vinson & Elkins, LLP, practicing primarily as a municipal finance attorney working on financings for nonprofit healthcare providers, universities, and the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. When I had children I took a maternal sabbatical to raise them from 1997 to 2008 when I divorced.

In 2008 I started practicing law with Shackelford, Melton & McKinley, LLP, in Dallas where I handled a variety of matters relating to estate planning, asset protection, estate taxes, and general tax planning. In 2012 I decided to focus on helping families with special needs and undertook studies to learn about government benefits, special needs trusts and guardianships. I treat each case with care and consideration and personalized service, but have large firm experience. No issue is too small and no question is too unimportant to ask.
