Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Ms. Pailet earned her B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her M.S.W. degree, with a certificate in Gerontology, from Tulane University School of Social Work, and her J.D. degree from Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law, where she was a member of Moot Court and Loyola’s Journal of Public Interest Law.
In addition to being an attorney licensed in Louisiana, Ms. Pailet is also a licensed clinical social worker. Prior to earning her juris doctorate, Ms. Pailet focused attention in the area of social work in health care and other facilities caring for the elderly. Ms. Pailet is a member of the Louisiana Elder Law Task Force and serves on the boards of Louisiana Guardianship Services, Inc. and the Bruce J. Heim Foundation. Beginning with the 2021-2022 Supplement, Ms. Pailet co-authors Estate Planning in Louisiana (Thomson West, 1991) a two-volume treatise used by many Louisiana estate planners, and she is also an adjunct professor at Loyola University’s College of Law, teaching Elder Law alongside Sheila Moragas.
Carrie Pailet advises clients on elder care law, including estate planning, Medicaid for long term care, successions, interdictions and continuing tutorships. Her desire is to help people develop a plan that is both comprehensive and compassionate. As a result, she has dedicated her career toward helping people navigate their path, whether it is the individual while they are still able to have an active role in making their own decisions or aiding their loved ones to make decisions as the individual begins to decline. Prior to join LaFleur and Laborde as partners, Ms. Pailet founded the firm of Carrie H. Pailet, APLC in 2010, and later joined forces with Keren E. Gesund in 2014 to form Gesund & Pailet, LLC.
