Personal Background:

Cari was born in Kansas City, Missouri and spent her early years living in Kansas. Her family relocated to Harrison County, Ohio where she graduated from Jewett-Scio High School in 1987. After three years at Muskingum College, she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and minors in economics and math. She enjoyed being a cheerleader for both football and basketball for the fighting Muskies. Cari went on to attend CWRU’s Franklin Thomas Backus School of Law where she received her J.D. magna cum laude, graduating 8th in her class.

Cari lives in North Canton with her husband Todd, who was a New Philadelphia fighting Quaker. They have three sons who help keep her mediation and negotiations skill honed. She and her family are active in the North Canton community and can usually be found on a ball diamond or court enjoying a sporting event. In the summer months, Cari enjoys golf and hiking outdoors, and in the winter, she loves snow and skiing.

Practice Description and Notable

OSBA Board Certified Insurance Coverage Specialist

Gehm v. Timberline argued before the Ohio Supreme Court regarding appealable nature of denial of motion to intervene to assert a declaratory judgment claim regarding insurance coverage

-Acuity v. Best Western- obtained summary judgment on enforceability of waiver of subrogation clause

-Kell v. Russo Concrete- obtained defense verdict in wrongful death commercial premises liability lawsuit

– Hockenberry v. Village of Carrollton- obtained a defense verdict in wrongful death action arising out of a police pursuit

Stemm v. Thomas- obtained a defense verdict in rear end motor vehicle accident where the assured clear distance ahead was cut down.

Over the course of twenty plus years in the legal profession, Cari has enjoyed a varied experience of representing individual and corporate insureds, as well as insurers. She has defended lawsuits involving bodily injury, property damage, premises liability, professional liability, defamation, construction defect, breach of contract, timber removal, trespass and product liability. In addition to her defense practice, she has been certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as an Insurance Coverage Specialist.
