In 1996, she was admitted to practice law in the state of New York. She is also admitted before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Tax Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.
Starting out her legal career at the United States Tax Court, Ms. Zahn clerked for the Honorable Carolyn Miller Parr from 1996 to 1998. After her federal clerkship, and prior to starting Zahn Law Group, she spent most of her legal career at renowned global New York law firms, such as Sherman & Sterling and Canadian law firms located in New York, such as Torys. At these firms, Ms. Zahn gained knowledge working on Fortune 100 mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and tax controversy issues. Her job also included representing clients before the IRS and the New York tax authorities.
Ms. Zahn served as Managing Director for Traust Sollus Wealth Management/Mercer Advisors where she supported senior wealth advisors with sophisticated income tax, trust & estate planning for high-net-worth individuals, family offices and business owners and general outside counsel for both profit and non-profit organizations. She is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Ms. Zahn founded and chaired the Legal Industry Council for the National Lesbian and Gay Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) at both the national and New York State levels. Honored for her extensive pro bono legal work, Ms. Zahn received the NY1 News New Yorker of the Week Award and was a recipient of the New York State Bar Association Empire State Counsel Pro Bono Provider Award. Ms. Zahn was pro bono tax counsel for the Empire State Pride Agenda and Bank Street Law Office, a non-profit law firm providing legal services for those in need. She has raised substantial funds for many charitable and political causes.
Furthermore, her entrepreneurial spirit has earned her the Brava Award issued by SmartCEO magazine.
While practicing law, she gained professional experience as the founder and CEO of Living Beyond Belief, a successful nonprofit organization. Living Beyond Belief was later absorbed by the Hetrick-Martin Institute.
