For over a decade, Jennifer Chiang has engaged in legal practice that includes Estate Planning, Probate, Business and Real Estate Transactions. Jennifer founded Chiang Law Firm in 2014 with her husband as a small family business. Today it is a fast-growing law firm serving clients in the greater Houston area, and abroad. She is a frequent author and presenter on Estate Planning and Probate issues in the Greater Houston Area.
In 2015, the Sugar Land City Council unanimously appointed Jennifer as an Associate Municipal Judge for the City of Sugar Land. Jennifer has the distinction of being the first native born resident of Sugar Land to serve as a Municipal Court Judge as well as the first Asian American to serve. Since then, Jennifer has dedicated herself to being a fair and effective jurist for the Citizens of Sugar Land.
Jennifer is committed to bringing her considerable organizational know-how and experience to her community including volunteering as a Trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation and District 5 Nominating Chair, Board Member of the Fort Bend Education Foundation, and member of the Fort Bend CASA CAC Advisory Committee. She was previously appointed by Governor Greg Abbott on the Commissioner on the Governor’s Commission for Women in 2016. She also served as the only female and minority commissioner on the City of Sugar Land Charter Commission in 2014. Jennifer is only one of a few people who are both a graduate of Sugar Land 101 and the Fort Bend Chamber Leadership Class of 2019. Jennifer was also honored by the Fort Bend Business Journal as one of Fort Bend’s Rising Stars in their May 2014 issue.
A native resident of Sugar Land, Texas. Jennifer graduated from Clements High School. She earned her Bachelors in Business Administration in Economics with Academic Distinction and Masters of Business Administration in Finance and International Business from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. She then attended the University of Houston Law Center where she was a member of the Interscholastic Moot Court and Mock Trial teams, founded two student organizations, and won numerous scholarships for academic achievement and leadership.
While in law school Jennifer was honored to clerk for United States Senator John Cornyn, Hon. Terry Jennings of the Texas First Court of Appeals, Hon. John T. Wooldrige of the 269th Harris County District Court, the Texas Railroad Commission, and Union Pacific Railroad’s Southern Law Department.
Jennifer is licensed to practice in all state courts in Texas, as well as the United States District and Bankruptcy Courts in the Southern District of Texas. She is a Member of the Fort Bend Bar Association, the Fort Bend Family Bar Association, the Asian American Bar Association – Houston, the State Bar of Texas Real Estate, Probate and Trust Section, the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section, the State Bar of Texas Child Protection Law Section, the State Bar of Texas Municipal Judges Section, the State Bar of Texas, the State Bar of Texas Asian Pacific Islander Interest Section, a Trustee and Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, and a Member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. She is also a board member of the Fort Bend Young Lawyers Association.
Jennifer is married to Christopher Meyer, an Iraq War veteran and Captain in the United States Army. She and her husband live in Fort Bend with their rescue dog and cat, and their son Mark. She is a member of Chinese Baptist Church.
